Common Issues and Solution Suggestion in Thermal Lamination Film Lamination

Sep.09.2025

Thermal lamination film is a widely used surface protection film in packaging and printing area. It has lots of advantages like convenient to use, eco-friendly, high efficiency, enhance surface effect, etc.. When we using this film, we may encounter certain problems. How can we solve them?
Below are some common problems and the solutions:

Pre-Coated Film for Inkjet Printing
Bubbling
Reason1: There are impurities on the surface of the printed material.
If there are impurities on the surface of the printed material before lamination, such as debris or dust, it may cause bubble when laminating.
Solution: Make sure the surface is clean and dry before laminating.

Reason2: Incorrect film laminating temperature
Excessive or insufficient laminating temperature can both lead to bubbling.
Solution: Ensure the laminating temperature is appropriate during the lamination process.

Low Adhesion
Reason1: The ink on the printing is not completely dry
If the ink on the printing surface is not completely dry, its viscosity may decrease during lamination. During the lamination process, wet ink may mix into the glue of the pre-coated film, causing a decrease in viscosity.
Solution: Ensure that the ink is completely dry before lamination.

Reason2: Metallic ink to be used
Metallic inks often contain large amounts of metal particles, which can react with the thermal overlaminate, causing a decrease in viscosity.
Solution: We recommend using EKO's digital super sticky thermal lamination film for this type of printing. Its superior adhesion easily resolves this issue.

Reason3: The thermal lamination film has passed its best-before date.
Thermal lamination film typically has a shelf life of approximately 1 year. The longer it's stored, the less effective it becomes.
Solution: It's recommended to use the film as soon as possible after purchase to ensure optimal results.

Reason4: The ink used for the printing contains excessive amounts of paraffin, silicone, or other ingredients.
Some inks may contain excessive amounts of paraffin, silicone, or other ingredients. These ingredients may affect the viscosity of the thermal lamination film, resulting in a decrease in viscosity after application.
Solution: We recommend using EKO’s digital pre-coated filmfor this type of printing. Its superior adhesion easily resolves this issue.
