Thermal Lamination Film: Common Questions & Expanded Answers

Apr.16.2026

Pre-coated film has become an indispensable material in the modern printing and packaging industry, providing efficient, high-quality lamination solutions for a wide range of applications. Today, we have compiled some common questions and answers about thermal lamination film products, hoping to be helpful to you. Whether you are new to lamination or an experienced professional, understanding these fundamentals can save you time, reduce waste, and improve final product quality.

1.What is corona? What do different corona values represent?

Corona treatment is a surface treatment process that discharges on the film surface to increase surface polarity and improve adhesion.

The corona value indicates the level of surface activity. The higher the corona value, the higher the activity, and the easier it is to adhere. Our company's pre-coated film products have a corona value of 38 dynes, strictly complying with international standards to ensure product quality.

However, because corona value decays over time, it is recommended to use the film within six months of production. If stored for too long, the corona value decays and may no longer meet usage requirements.

2.What is the difference between PET pre-coated film and BOPP pre-coated film, and how do their applications differ?

The main differences lie in the substrate material and performance characteristics. PET pre-coated film uses PET film as the substrate, while BOPP pre-coated film uses BOPP film.

In terms of performance, PET film has better stiffness and gloss compared to BOPP film, while BOPP film is more flexible. The application choice depends on the customer's product requirements and overall cost considerations.

3. After laminating, the paper curls. Why does curling occur? How to solve it?

A: It may be due to high static electricity on the film caused by environmental or weather factors. It is recommended to add a static elimination device on the laminating equipment.

B: Excessive heating of the film during lamination can cause product curling. It is recommended to lower the lamination temperature or increase the lamination speed.

C: Use qualified paper. The thickness and stiffness of paper are much greater than those of the film. Good paper provides a good foundation.

4. During lamination, if adhesive-film separation occurs, how to solve it? Under what circumstances does adhesive-film separation occur?

A: First, you must know how to identify adhesive-film separation. After lamination, if creasing blistering or stamping blistering occurs, first analyze the blistered area. Only the phenomenon where the adhesive layer separates from the film layer and adheres to the paper or plastic surface is considered adhesive-film separation.

B: Improper production process of the pre-coated film or improper use by the customer can cause adhesive-film separation.

C: If adhesive-film separation occurs, it is recommended to increase the lamination temperature, increase the lamination pressure, or reduce the lamination speed.

D: If this occurs when using our company's pre-coated film products, customers are advised to send samples (problematic film roll, customer paper sample, laminated paper sample with issues) back to our company. Our professional technical staff will assist in solving the problem.

Understanding the root causes of common lamination problems is the first step toward achieving flawless results. To summarize, always pay attention to film storage conditions, choosing the right substrate (PET or BOPP) based on your specific application needs, and carefully control lamination temperature, speed, and pressure. Should you encounter any difficulties that are not resolved by these suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact our technical support team. We stand behind every roll of pre-coated film and are committed to helping you succeed. Send us your samples, and our experts will work with you to find a tailored solution. Happy laminating!
